Free workshop spot

There is a contest in progress right now at In Focus forum board. The contest is for one spot in the January workshop. You will need to be a member to see the contest, but registration is free as well as the forum board (one of the few that still are free). It's also one of the friendliest according to the members. So, if you are looking taking the January workshop and want a chance at a free spot, check out the contest.

Remember, you do need studio lights (at least 2, 3 is better) and a light meter to truly get anything out of the workshop.

The workshop is only $175, includes 6 lessons on basic studio poses, light forms, ratios, feathering your light, hi-key, hairlight and more. Plus 8 weeks (the lenght of the workshop) of one on one mentoring via the board, email or phone.
Three bonus lessons on using a speedlight and composition using rules of thirds.
Critiques are given on the main lessons and any bonus lesson you choose to do.
You will also be given access to a private forum on In Focus just for past and current workshop students.

Some things are just meant to be...

I've had so much positive feedback about the online workshop and so much interest from the In Focus forum, that I will have at least 2 more online workshops in 2009. The first one for 2009 will start on January 18th. I'm still working on how to have a live one day workshop next year. Maybe a get together in Ohio for In Focus members will be the best way to do that!

I have a couple of talented photographers to showcase from the workshop, so keep checking back!

To sign up, simply fill out the application to the right. This tells me what equipment you have and that you have the right equipment to get the most out of the workshop. It also give you a chance to ask any questions you might have.

Oh, and a word on mentoring. I still want to offer 1 on 1 online mentoring. It would include email and phone contact. This will be a much more intense program. I could only take 1 person at a time and it would last 12 weeks. You do need a good understanding of how to use all of your equipment as we will cover techniques for indoor and outdoor photography. As this program comes together, I will have more info.

Closing workshop

The last workshop was the final one. I am getting busy with my studio and don't have the time to commit to the online workshop. However, you can still purchase the information. It is immediate download once your payment has been recieved.

To replace the workshop, I am offering one on one mentoring. This is done online, but I would consider coming to you for a weekend for more intense mentoring. You absolutely must have a complete understanding of how all your equipment works. I would not be teaching, but mentoring you on finding your style, creating images that are ready for soft proofing sooc and of course the business side of the business. I can only take one mentee at a time, lasting 12 weeks. You must be committed though! No quitting 1/2 way through.

I also have some workshops planned for 2009. These will be in person, not online. You would get hands on studio lighting training. You will walk away with a complete understanding of your studio lighting equipment as well as creative techniques for the studio. These are not beginner workshops.

I will post more info after the first of the year. In the mean time, if you would like to purchase the studio lighting information, just click on the link to the right. For mentoring, since I have already been approached, I will start taking deposits after December 31. It will be first come first served.

Last workshop

First I have a definate date for the next workshop which is August 24. There is still time to sign up. Use the application from to the right. This lets me know you have the needed equipment to complete the assignments. Since some of you signed up for the summer class, but because of busy kid and vacation schedules, were not able to complete the program, email me and you can jump back into this workshop.

Also, this is the last workshop of the year. Fall is my busy time and I don't feel I have as much time to devote to critiquing assignments. There is still room in this workshop, so if you've been thinking about, now's the time. Otherwise it will be spring of 2009.

And I also have the mini program. Same lessons, no bonus, and no personal critiquing. You post to the In Focus board instead for CC.

Full workshop is $150 right now! $25 off regular price
Mini program is $95.

Workshop updates

The date of the August workshop has been changed. With our county fair and my own involvement in it, I won't be around the second week of August. So, I am moving the date back, but don't have a definite yet. I will make a decision before the end of July. All participant will receive an email with the start date.

August is also the last workshop for the year. I'm planning on some 1 day workshops in the spring of 2009. These will be held in my studio, your studio or anyplace a studio can be set up. Watch for more information on these.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun Fourth of July weekend!!

DVD's and Gray cards

Starting with the August workshop, I will be putting all the lessons on a DVD and supplying a gray card. The workshop will still be online on the Simply Studio board, the DVD is just back up and for personal reference. So, if you're looking for one more reason to sign up, this is a nice incentive. This is for the full workshop only, not the mini program. In the mean time, if you're having a hard time finding an 18% gray card for the first lesson, please contact me.

DIY, The mini workshop

Sometimes it's hard to commit to set time line. Family, job, home. I completely understand. So, I am offering the online workshop as a diy mini program. It includes the same 8 lessons and you can post the assignments online for critiquing and feedback. The difference being:

1. No time line
2. Critiquing from past and present workshop members, instead of from me.
3. Lessons are on a protected forum on In Focus discussion board instead of the Simply Studio Online Workshop board.
4. No need to fill out an application to register. If you feel you have the right equipment and understand how to use it, just pay for the lessons and start when you are ready.

This program is $95. You can click on the paypal button and put diy in the subject or memo when you pay. You'll have access within 24 hours of paying and registering on the discussion board.

And you can quote me...

Carrie is an amazing photographer. When she signed up for lighting lesson, she already had a good grasp of what she was doing. It just need tweaked. I'm thrilled she was one of my students and wish her the best in her business. Watch for her as my featured photographer this month.

The money I spent on your lessons was hands down the best money I ever put into my photography. I look at it as, I could get the same results from my D70 as I can from my D300, it isn't the camera...it is knowing how to use it. I had the same lights I had before your lessons, but now they magically light the way they are supposed to. I can not express to you how much I have taken from this experience. Photoshop, who needs that once you know how to use your lights and your camera well!!! You have saved me hours and hours and hours of work, by showing me how to get through this. I have read most of this stuff on photography before, I have tons of books....but had no one to look at what I was doing to tell me what I was getting and where I was going wrong. Oh and having access to the business side, fantastic!!! Having a group of peers that there is no competition with, just others who truly want to help is amazing. These lesson were invaluable, your critique was gentle and
encouraging! Carrie B.
